Traditional Use: The leaves and twigs of this small shrub have a long history of medicinal uses.

Properties: Analgesic, anesthetic, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antiseptic, antiviral, deodorant, expectorant, immune stimulant, nervine, sedative, vulnerary

Benefits: Burns, colds, cough, cracked skin, dandruff, fever, infections, insect bites and stings, intestinal infections, muscular pain, sinus congestion, sore throats, sunburn, wounds. This oil may be used as an expectorant by adding it to a steam inhalation.

Blends Well With: Basil, bergamot, black pepper, chamomile, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, litsea cubeba, marjoram, orange, patchouli, peppermint, petitgrain, pine, ravensara, rosemary, sage, sandalwood, tea tree, thyme

Of Interest: All parts of this plant have been used by the Maori people as an important part of their natural medicine. It is believed that both manuka and tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) were used by Captain Cook to make a tea drink, thus given the name Tea Tree.
