Mountain Rose Herbs receives “The Bold Steps To Sustainability Award” from the Mayor of Eugene, Kitty Piercy

Accepting award Mountain Rose Herbs was recently recognized by the City of Eugene and Mayor Kitty Piercy with its "Bold Steps To Sustainability Award". The "Bold Steps" program honors local businesses for making decisions based on the "triple bottom line", which is an expanded spectrum of economic, environmental and social values and criteria for measuring organizational and societal success.

Mayor Kitty Piercy made the announcement to the public at the Good Earth Home and Garden Show Saturday, January 26th at the beginning of the Solar Home Tour. Managing Director Julie Bailey and Operations Manager & Director of Quality Control Shawn Donnille accepted the award on behalf of Mountain Rose Herbs whose bold steps include the creation of a zero waste work environment amongst many other criterions.

In addition to this, Mountain Rose Herbs converted to 100% renewable energy by transferring its conventional electrical power usage to renewable energy sources, credits, and development through the Carbonfund and is also running company vehicles on bio-diesel.

To be honored with the Mayor’s award each nominee of the Bold Steps Towards Sustainability Award must submit an application which is reviewed by a committee and given approval based on the environmental, social and economic merits outlined in the application. The application consisted of 41 questions and included

  3. Do you provide educational assistance to all employees?
  4. Do you provide real living wages?
  5. Do you have energy reduction plans implemented?
  6. Do you have programs in place to eliminate or reduce the use of toxic materials?
