Native to southern Asia, black seeds now grow prolifically around the world. Nigella sativa is an annual herbaceous plant in the Ranunculaceae family with finely divided leaves and delicate, pale-colored flowers. The large, inflated capsules produce numerous small black seeds that are commonly used as a spice in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines.
The seeds have a savory, pungent, and slightly bitter taste. Black seed is typically dry-roasted and used to flavor curries, vegetables, and naan. It is estimated that black seeds, also referred to as black cumin seeds, have been used by human civilization since at least the times of ancient Egypt. Nigella seeds have been discovered in several sites from this time period, including in Tutankhamun’s tomb.
Our clearance black seeds are organic and can be employed in cooking recipes or added to coffee or tea for a unique flavor.
