Hydrangea is an ancient plant that has shown up in the fossil record as far back as 70 million years ago in North America and 25 million years ago in Asia. Hydrangea’s name stems from the ancient Greek language meaning water vase, a name which is appropriate for this water loving plant. A member of the Hydrangeaceae botanical family, Hydrangea arborescens is a medium-sized shrub with smooth bark and white flowers that resemble snowballs.

Hydrangea root has a history of traditional use by various Native American tribes for its healthful properties. The root was later adopted into American folk herbal practices. In modern herbalism, hydrangea root is often employed for its affinity for the urinary tract.

Our hydrangea extract is macerated using wildharvested root and organic alcohol in small batches at our extract facility in Eugene, Oregon. Hydrangea tincture has a sweet yet pungent taste and is often blended into botanical formulations. It blends well with goldenrod extract, uva ursi extract, and marshmallow root extract amongst others.
