This evergreen perennial is native to the Middle East. It has a spicy smell and oregano-like taste, which is the main ingredient in the zaatar spice blend which is quite popular in the Middle East. The plant prefers full sun and sandy, fast-draining soil. Start seeds in a greenhouse by barely covering and keeping warm, moist, and in the light until germination. Grow up in pots before transplanting out to the garden when the soil outdoors has really warmed up. Space plants one foot apart in the garden.
