Overview

Introduction

Ireland moss is a tough and stringy red, yellow, or purple seaweed growing up to 6 inches (250 mm) high on rocks in tidal pools along the northern Atlantic. It is harvested to make carrageenan, a thickening agent for jellies, puddings, and soups, and is a traditional herbal remedy in Ireland.

Typical Preparations

Traditionally used as a tea or tincture, sometimes encapsulated. May be taken as a capsule for convenience.

Precautions

Specific: For periodic use only. Not to be taken for an extended period of time. Do not use while pregnant or nursing, or by those suffering hyperthyroidism. May contain shell fragments.
